Buckeye Trail's Warriors maintained their lead in the OVAC 3-A boys' race following an 84-81 Wednesday night road victory at Union Local in a make-up encounter.
The now 12-4 Guernsey County quint trailed UL 20-18 after one period before rallying for a 41-31 intermission advantage. Trail then expanded its lead to 65-53 after three rounds before holding off a spirited fourth quarter comeback bid by the Jets.
All five Warriors' starters fashioned double figure performances including CJ Beaver, Lane Starr and Josh Toland each of whom netted 16 points. Zach Roe provided 15-point support. Troy Starr scored 11.
Union Local's senior veteran Jacob Bailey led all scorers with 27 markers. Freshman Trenton Tipton connected for 23 tallies. Another frosh prospect Kaleb McDivitt netted 15 points and junior Gavin Porter contributed 10.
Collin Jones nabbed eight rebounds for the Jets with Porter and Bailey landing six and five caroms, respectively. The hosts were charted for eight turnovers.
Union local has a Friday night road contest scheduled at Martins Ferry.

AT Liverpool, the invading Lady Panthers received a dozen points from Becky Zeroski and 10 more from Kayla Fillipovich in a road conquest of the Lady Potters. Lauren Swiger netted nine points for Willy Luther's quint while Amy Balk and Kristen Czuchran scored seven apiece.
Buckeye was scheuled to host Weir High this evening.
