WAITING OUTSIDE the Hanna Coal Co.'s Piney Fork Mine No. 1, during a shift change in the early 1940s are these miners, undoubtedly with well-packed lunch pails. These men are among the almost 1200 miners employed at the mine during World War II. This mine was one of the country's leading coal producers.
