ST. CLAIRSVILLE Tuesday marks the end of more than 10 years of business as Velocity is closing its doors inside the Ohio Valley Mall.
Owner Tim Sheppard is still going to run his Canton location on 4110 W. Tuscarawas St. but the St. Clairsville store is closing up its doors.
Velocity, since its opening, has offered a large selection of sports-themed apparel, memorabilia, hats, artwork and more.
A large swathe of teams were represented, but Velocity always made sure to have ample supply of product for the local collegiate and professional teams.
Velocity also stocked some of the more harder-to-find collegiate apparel and merchandise.
A 40-percent off storewide closing sale has been taking place recently and sports fans have been flooding the store to get great bargains on t-shirts, hats, and even jerseys.
Attempts by The Times Leader to contact Sheppard were not returned, but one employee inside the store said he believed the closure had nothing to do with sales.
He said he believed Ohio Valley Mall management asked Sheppard to relocate Velocity closer to Finish Line and that the owner didn't want to move.
Finish Line is a full two sections further down the mall from Velocity's current location, close to Macy's and Kmart. Velocity is currently positioned near the end of the corridor anchored by Sears.
The Ohio Valley Mall still has a number of sports-apparel retailers left to provide shoppers with their collegiate and professional team attire, including Hibbett Sports, Finish Line and Lids for hats.
