WHEELING - A great way to beat the winter doldrums is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 15 when friends, dinner, and greyhound racing come together for the 2012-2013 campaign for the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley with a Night at the Races.
Major sponsors for the 18th annual event include Wheeling Island Hotel Casino Racetrack, the event location, Pepsi, and WTRF-TV.
Fifteen businesses in the area have stepped up to sponsor the evening's races. They are Costanzo & Associates; Beyond Marketing; Steele Insurance Associates; Lamar Advertising; Riesbeck Food Markets, Inc.; The Health Plan; United Bank; Main Street Bank; The Times Leader; Wheeling News-Register/The Intelligencer; The Cornerstone Group; WesBanco; H.E. Neumann Co.; Chesapeake Energy; and Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration.
Making final preparations for the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley 2013 Night at the Races slated for March 15 at Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack are the major sponsors for the evening. Judy Riesbeck Wright, campaign chair, thanked the major event sponsors and race sponsors for their support, adding, "Night at the Races is an evening when we celebrate the hard work and generosity of our area businesses, companies and individuals toward the success of our annual United Way campaign. What better way is there to put winter behind you, gather with friends for a delicious dinner and enjoy the excitement of watching the races."
Guests will enjoy buffet stations offering Wheeling Island specialties of beef, chicken and seafood; a pasta station, offering made-to-order selections; and fresh vegetables and salads. Wheeling Island's noted array of desserts will be presented, and a coffee station will allow guests to pour a cup to their liking.
Adding to the fun will be the awarding of five special prizes, which requires a separate ticket that will be available for purchase that evening. The first prize is a romantic Hampton Inn/Wheeling get-a-way with a room, dinner, transportation, and tickets to "Elvis Lives" at the Capitol Theatre. Second is a $500 Kroger gift card and third is two, 4-day passes to 2013 Jamboree in the Hills, donated by The Health Plan; fourth is a "Luv Ya Black & Gold" Pittsburgh sports basket, donated by Wheeling Hospital; fifth is a gift certificate for Good Mansion Wines.
Tickets for the evening are $30 each and may be purchased by calling the United Way at 304-232-4625. Raffle tickets are $3 each or two for $5 and can be purchased at the United Way office, as well.
