WHEELING - Michael Haneke's masterpiece "Amour," winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, will be shown this weekend only- March 1, 2 and 3- at Oglebay Institute's Towngate Cinema.

Depicting love through an unflinching look at death, the film follows an octogenarian couple that finds love put to the ultimate test when one of them suffers a stroke, and the other must assume the role of the caretaker.

The film received five Oscar nominations: Achievement in Directing; Original Screenplay; Foreign Language Film (winner); Best Picture and Best Actress (Emmanuelle Riva).

In May, writer/director Haneke picked up his second Palme d'Or, the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival, in four years. He becomes the seventh director recognized for best picture since Cecil B. DeMille received the first award for "Union Pacific" (1939).

Rated PG-13, "Amour" will be shown at 7 and 9:15 p.m. Friday, March 1; 4, 7 and 9:15 p.m. Saturday, March 2 and 2 and 4:15 p.m. Sunday, March 3.

Located at 2118 Market Street, Towngate Cinema is easy to find and located just across the street from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in the historic Centre Market District of Wheeling.

Oglebay Institute's Cinema program is underwritten by the Ogden Newspapers and all Towngate films are shown for one weekend only. Tickets are available at the door and are $7 for evening and $6 for matinee shows, seniors and OI members. The box office opens one hour before all shows and can be reached at 304-233-0820.
