Good Friday

ON GOOD Friday, Christians focus on the crucifixion of Christ. The liturgy of the day includes the Veneration of the Cross, in which a cross is solemnly displayed to the congregation and then venerated by them, individually. Monsignor John Kolesar leads the procession bearing the simple wooden cross used in the observance at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Dillonvale. The Church in Rome adopted the practice in the seventh century from the Church in Jerusalem, where a fragment of wood believed to be the Lord's cross had been venerated every year on Good Friday since the fourth century.
