Veteran St. John Central softball head coach Jerry Magistro reached a coveted milestone Thursday afternoon.
When his Lady Irish (4-0) put the finishing touches on a 5-0 whitewashing of visiting Frontier on Amanda's Field, it gave Magistro his 250th career victory.
"Honestly, before the game one of the umpires came up to me and said, '250 huh?' I asked him what he was talking about and he said 'the paper tonight said if you win it will be your 250th.' I hadn't seen the paper or even thought about it.
"It's a great feeling, but a lot of the credit goes to all of the girls and assistant coaches I've had in my 13 years," he added. "I'm proud to have been part of a great program and it makes you feel good when people appreciate what you've accomplished."
Junior Hannah Absalom struck out 16 and walked two in firing a 1-hitter. The lone hit she allowed was a 2-out, seventh-inning single by Hanna Bowersock.
