Please be advised that I encourage everyone in the St. Clairsville School District to vote for the renewal levy in May.
If you have not seen the pictures of the roof leaking in the elementary building, please take a moment to see for yourself. The kids in our district deserve to learn in an environment without buckets on the floor and plastic over the filing cabinets.
Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to attend many events over the years at St. Clairsville Schools. From football and basketball games to St. C. Singer programs including their spaghetti dinners and the science fairs. While it would have been great to see these occur in a brand new school, the voters long ago decided that we needed to continue to operate out of the existing buildings. The administration and staff at the school have done that admirably. Mr. Skaggs and his staff have worked very hard to make sure that we continue to educate our students the best way possible with a tight budget.
I, having graduated in 1947, saw the building where I went to high school be transformed into the connector building that is used today. Now we need to make sure the students have a proper roof over their heads.
There will be many with excuses to say no. It does not effect me. I already pay too much in taxes. I do not have any kids in the school anymore. When all is said and done, you know that these are hollow words. Please think about the future of our children. Education is the bedrock of social and economic development.
Please take the time to vote for the levy. The kids future depends on it and they depend on us to be sure the levy passes.
