RAPER, Emmett James

RAPER, Emmett James, age 86, of Sardis, OH, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was a loving husband, father, pap-pap and pappy.

He was born November 1, 1926 in Fly, Ohio, a son of the late Ernest L. and Liddie B. Martin Raper.

He retired from Bayer Chemical in 1991 after 35 years of service as a superintendent of utilities. Emmett was a faithful member of the Sardis United Methodist Church, having served on various committees over the years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mona Raper Linardi; two brothers, Fred M. and Ernest E. Raper; three sisters, Mabel Owens Dawson, Betty Raper, and Carrie Raper; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Williamson.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jones Raper, whom he married June 28, 1947; one son, Larry E. Raper; one daughter, Linda and her husband, Charles Schmidt, all of Sardis; a son-in-law, Robert Linardi of Baltimore, OH; a brother, Bernard M. Raper of Neon, KY; a brother-in-law, James Williamson of Paden City, WV; four grandchildren, Ryan (Lexie) Schmidt and Julie (Steve) Byers, both of Chesapeake, OH; Drew Linardi of Columbus, OH and Melanie Linardi of Wingate, NC; three great- grand children: Zander and Zoey Schmidt and Avery Byers; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home 37234 Mound St. Sardis, Ohio, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating.

Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
