BELLAIRE - A pair of top-seeded OVAC Softball Tournament squads squared off Tuesday afternoon on Amanda's Field in Bellaire.
When it was all said and done, Class 4A Martins Ferry (13-4) scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to knock off Class A St. John Central, 3-2.
Trailing 1-0 entering their final at-bat, the Purple Riders received RBI hits from Kady Webb, Kylie Stalder and Brooklyn Monroe to take a 3-1 advantage.
Kaydie Coppa homered in the bottom of the inning for the final margin.
Coppa also added two singles and a double.
Webb had a single and double for the winners. Stalder singled and tripled, while Monroe singled. Addie Suriano had a pair of base knocks.
Hannah Absalom suffered the loss despite fanning 10 and walking just one. Shaye DeLeonardis had eight Ks and finally walked a batter for the first time in 10 games.
Kristen Russell had a single and double for the Irish (15-2). Morgan DeLuca singled in a run in the third inning.
St. John Central plays Paden City today at 5 in an OVAC Class A semifinal on Ben's Field at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex, while Martins Ferry meets Buckeye Local at 7:30 p.m. on Lisa's Field, also at I-470.
