The statue of John A. Bingham, which has stood in front of the Harrison County Courthouse on the square in Cadiz for several decades, has been removed and will under go cleaning and restoration work before returning to its home later this summer. The work, which includes cleaning of the likeness of the lawyer who eventually served as the judge advocate in the trial of the assassin of Abraham Lincoln, is being completed by Coon Restoration of Lewisville and will also include the cannons on the corners of the courthouse lawn. Bingham, a graduate of the former Franklin College in New Athens, served three terms in the United States Senate and also served as the prosecutor in the impeachment hearings of Andrew Johnson. Born Jan. 21, 1815 in Pennslyvania, Bingham died in Harrison County on March 19, 1900 in Cadiz.
