RIO RANCHO, N.M. - Nate Davis continued his assault on opposing defenses here last weekend.
The former Bellaire High and Ball State University quarterback tossed seven more touchdown passes as Amarillo took a two-game lead in the Lone Star Football League with a 57-54 nod over the homestanding New Mexico Stars inside the Santa Ana Star Center.
Davis was a nifty 21 of 32 for 357 yards. He was not picked off.
For the season, he has completed 126 of 227 passes for 1,400 yards and an eye-popping 37 touchdowns in seven games. He has only thrown three interceptions.
In addition, he leads the Venom in rushing with 99 yards and five six-pointers on 17 carries.
Amarillo (8-2) is idle this week before hosting New Mexico on June 22. A victory would wrap up the regular season crown for the second straight year. The Venom conclude the regular season on June 29 at Laredo, which is in second place.
