CADIZ - Marilyn Monzula wanted to create a family business that she could pass onto her family for generations to come.
For her, that's a winery.
In April, Monzula opened Vineyard 22, located at 83800 Monzula Dr., just off U.S. 22.

Vineyard 22’s bar offers five different types of wine ranging from sweet reds to dry whites. All of the wines are made by Marilyn Monzula and her family.
"This is our venture for not only our retirement, but I thought for the family, that it is something that they are can hang on to and maybe make a living if need be in the future."
Monzula runs Vineyard 22 with her daughter Gina Constantino and her daughter -in- law Debbie Mocmik.
The name Vineyard 22 comes from its location being right off U.S. 22, especially with parts of U.S. 22 able to be seen from the deck.
"I always like to go to wineries and there are a lot of them up around the Cleveland area," said Monzula. "We have made wine for over 20 years, even when we were (living in the Cleveland area), we started making wines up there."
Monzula and her husband moved back to their family farm in 1994 after they retired to help her brother - in- law take care of the farm.
The first grape plants, which are Concord grapes, were planted in 1988. Since then, they have been planting, picking and crushing their own grapes on the family-owned cattle farm on which Vineyard 22 sits.
Vineyard 22 offers five different home-made wines, ranging from sweet reds to dry whites. All wines can be enjoyed there or ordered to go. They offer a tasting tray that includes all five wines. Along with the wines, Vineyard 22 also offers home-made jellies that can be found on the menu as well various cheese and special plates.
The hours for Vineyard 22 are Wednesday and Friday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and opens at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Vineyard 22 will also offer entertainment along with hosting small events such as showers and business luncheons. There is a possibly that they will have catering in the future.
"We would like to invite everyone to stop by and hopefully they will enjoy the wine," said Monzula.
