ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Gina Ponzani is now in charge at Snips Hair Design in St. Clairsville.
It's a role she's more than capable of filling.
But it's also one she had no intention of filling a few weeks ago and definitely not in the manner the move presented itself.

THE STAFF at Snips Hair Design want the public to know they will carry on Luke Elerick’s legacy and continue to offer quality hair stylings. From left, are: Maggie Jarvis, Gina Ponzani, Erin Rinkes and Lisa Pata. Not pictured is Paula Riccadonna
A veteran stylist and employee, Ponzani, like her fellow coworkers, enjoyed working under the director and tutelage of former owner Luke Elerick.
Elerick passed away on June 5 after a tragic accident near his home on Ohio 9 in St. Clairsville.
According to Ponzani, Elerick was returning back across the street from obtaining the mail when he was hit by a truck and killed.
Two weeks later, Ponzani and her staff are still dealing with Elerick's passing.
"Luke was a great guy to work for," Ponzani said.
Ponzani explained that Elerick was always in a great mood, even when things going on dictated that his demeanor should be different.
At age 61, Elerick had a zeal for life and the motivation of a man half his age.
They fielded calls from former and current customers offering their sympathies and had the unenviable task of informing Elerick's clients about the tragic news.
But despite Elerick's passing, someone had to pick up the torch and keep Snips Hair Design running through the tough times, so Ponzani felt it was her duty to keep the ship afloat.
Her name is now on the building rental agreement as owner/operator and along with taking care of her regular clients, Ponzani now has to add scheduling, payroll and other tasks to her daily workload.
Safe to say, she's been busy.
She noted that fortunately, Elerick utilized the services of a bookkeeper for the more labor-intensive accounting duties.
Ponzani currently employs one full-time employee and multiple part-timers. She noted she's going to be doing some hiring to help out, although currently, she's not sure if that will be a full-time or part-time position.
The staff will continue to provide its customers the same passionate, caring service that they expected to receive under Elerick's leadership.
