MARTINS FERRY Joseph Lawrie, GIS mapping technician with Ohio Rural Community Assistance Program, presented a completed mapping system of the city during last week's meeting. He noted the maps and map books have been printed and will be delivered soon.
The results include a breakdown of the sanitary sewer system and operations. The database is accessible through GIS software.
He also displayed a wall map of the sewer system, including water distribution in town. Maps also show water extension out to Pease and Colerain Townships. The city will receive three copies of each.
JOSEPH LAWRIE, left, a GIS mapping technician, and Martins Ferry Service Director Charles Bennett display a sewer system map.
Mayor Paul Riethmiller said the maps would prove invaluable in tracking future breaks and finding shut-off valves in present breaks. The maps will be updated as new valves are installed.
"This stuff will help us tremendously," he said.
