BARNESVILLE - As the summer months roll on, schools around the area continue to knock out summer check lists, including the Barnesville School District. The board of education conducted its monthly meeting along with a special meeting the preceding two weeks to make some additions to their staff.
Two principals, Michah Fuchs and Clint Abbott, were given the nod by the board for the high school and elementary positions, respectively. Both are former principals in the Switzerland of Ohio school district. Fuchs will succeed Jeff Crosier after his resignation via retirement. Superintendent Randy Lucas extended gratitude for the long line of service. The board also accepted the resignation of of Instrumental Music Teacher John Gruber, who will be replaced by Sarah Cooper during the upcoming school year.
Dr. Rebecca Hannahs, Director of Instruction and Student Services, was recognized by Lucas and the board for receiving the "Special Educator of the Year," designated by the State Support Team Region 12 and Belmont County Advisory Board.
Other additions to the staff include Stephanie Allen, fourth grader teacher; Emily Anderson, preschool; and volunteer athletic coaches Chris Hannahs and Jason Huntsman, football; Sandra Daniels and Nikki McEndree, girls basketball; and Kevin Miller, volleyball.
Improvements to the high school track and football field bleachers were approved. After work had been completed at the football stadium as instructed by the insurance company, additional requests were made at both facilities, spawning the project. Buckeye Bleacher Repair will be doing the work.
A purchase order for 95 teachers' computers due up for replacement was also discussed. The teachers' computers are set to be upgraded in the near future.
The district also approved Griffin Insurance as the student insurance carrier and membership to the Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools for the upcoming school year.
