One of the area's premier scrambles is quickly approaching at Belmont Hills Country Club.

The annual Jeffrey Showalter Memorial Celebrity Golf Classic will be held on Aug. 14 and will begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start. The entry fee is $600 per team ($150 per man) and each team will have a celebrity playing with it.

The scramble is the chief fundraiser for the Ohio Valley Christian Soldiers. The group benefits local Ohio Valley causes. The Christian Soldiers have raised more than $240,000 in their eight-year history.

The entire list of celebrities, who are planning on taking part, isn't finalized yet. However, some names who are already committed to playing are: Jim Bradshaw, Don Donatelli, Frank Thomas, Bob Butts, Lance Mehl, Pete Gonzalez, Mike Ciccirella, John Candelaria, Don Sutherin, Robin Cole and Sid Bream.

Major Corporate Sponsors thus far include: Whiteside's, Consol Energy, Inc., United Dairy, SP Financial Strategies, Lou Costanzo & Associates, Charles Dematte (Pike Island Dental Associates), Tim's Custom Installation, Muxie Distributing, Lamar, Bridgeport Auto Parts, Thorp Reed and Armstrong, WesBanco and Ye Olde Alpha who will be providing over 200 steak dinners at "no charge" for the OVCS.

To donate, inquire about membership or to sponsor the golf outing, call the Ohio Valley Christian Soldiers at (740) 699-2468.

All told, there are still four more events to be held and one senior event. All of that will go toward determing the OVGA Player of the Year.
