Clips-n-Colors marks one year

July 28, 2013

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - When Clips-n-Colors opened its doors last June, owner Diane Pinkston had high hopes for her dream business. After a year filled with growth, the St. Clairsville salon will celebrate its first year in operation by giving back to those who made the first year a success - the customers.

The celebration begins Monday, July 29 and runs through Saturday, Aug. 3, which actually coincides with the business's grand opening celebration last year. Throughout the week, Clips-n-Colors will have giveaways for customers, as well as the opportunity to draw a discount from a basket to use toward hair products. In addition, customers can register all week for the grand prize - a gift basket valued at $100 containing a t-shirt and a variety of products. Pinkston said the week will serve as a way for them to thank all their customers and to draw in new customers as well.

Although new lights, a new ceiling and a new hair station don the inside of the salon, nothing has changed about the overall environment. Customers can feel comfortable and relaxed in a salon that feels like an upscale, out-of-area salon without the upscale expense.

Clips-n-Colors in St. Clairsville is celebrating its first anniversary. The week-long celebration begins Monday, July 29 and runs through Saturday, Aug. 3 and features giveaways, discounts and the opportunity to win a gift basket valued at $100. Owner Diane Pinkston (back left) is joined by stylists Brianne “Bri” Winters and Amanda Bear (front, from left), and Joyce Brown (back right).

Regarding pricing, Pinkston stated, "We're probably one of the most reasonable places in town." She invites anyone to stop by to pick up a pricing menu, which is always available at the desk.

Clips-n-Colors is a full service hair salon offering stylish, modern haircuts for men, women and children, hair color, perms, foils, roller sets, facial waxing, and updos for all occasions. A new service is a vanilla lavendar paraffin hand dip, designed to relax and invigorate. Organic perms are also offered.

In addition to its many services, Clips-n-Colors prides itself on the organic and vegan products in its arsenal. The All-Nutrient hair color it offers is certifiably organic and 100 percent vegan, as is the ThermaFuse organic hair color. Clips-n-Colors carries the full line of phosphate and sulfur free ThermaFuse styling products. The salon also added Sukesha, a new product line.

This organic hair care system contains all natural ingredients to invigorate your hair at the root to revitalize your scalp where hair growth begins. Roffler products for men can also be ordered by request.

Pinkston and her co-workers - stylists Joyce Brown, Amanda Bear and Brianne "Bri" Winters - spent last year educating themselves on their All-Nutrient products. In February, Pinkston and Brown attended a certification class for the All-Nutrient hair color.

The entire staff attended an advanced color class in April, and in October, everyone will attend the Nationwide Beauty Show in Columbus. Pinkston proudly stated that she and her staff are "all up-to-date on their line of color."

"I think we're doing well. Everybody works as a team instead of singly," Pinkston said about her staff. "So, we help each other. It's nice. If you get caught up or somebody's not doing something, they'll help you out. It really makes a difference."

Last Christmas, the salon won first place in a shelf display contest through their distributor. The contest covered all of Ohio, and included parts of West Virginia and Pennsylvania that deal with this distributor. Clips-n-Colors won $50 worth of free products, which it in turn gave back to its customers. In addition, Pinkston said they donated to several different benefits over the last year to help the community.

The business continues to grow, much to Pinkston's delight. She said word of mouth and advertising both have helped immensely. "A lot of people come in and say they saw our ad in the paper. Other people had friends who told them about us," she stated. Over the next year or two, Pinkston expects the growth to continue, maybe do some more remodeling, expand their education, and of course, continue to focus on exceptional customer service.

"We're always welcoming new clients to come in," Pinkston said with a smile.
