YORKVILLE - A two-story vacant house near Yorkville was destroyed early this morning by a fire battled by five volunteer fire departments and two tanker task forces.

Yorkville Fire Chief Kevin Klubert said the blaze was fully involved when the firefighters arrived.

The fire call to the two-story house was received right after 1 a.m., according to Klubert. Fighting the flames were departments from Yorkville, Tiltonsville, Mount Pleasant, Rayland and Brilliant with tanker task forces from Belmont and Jefferson counties providing water.

Klubert said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire chief thought the vacant house was up for sale.

The fire scene on County Road 2 is at the top of the hill past Upland Cemetery before starting down to Glen Robbins.
