ST. CLAIRSVILLE Several sentences were handed down and pleas heard during Friday's session of Belmont County Common Pleas Court. Judge John M. Solovan II presided.
Clarence William Bertram, 21, Wheeling Island, was sentenced on one count of failure to comply with a police officer, a felony of the third degree occurring Feb. 20, 2013. He was given five years of community control sanctions. He will serve six months in jail with credit for 37 days, and six months EOCC. He will be subject to 12 months of intensive supervised probation and 36 months of probation. His operator's license will be suspended for three years.
Charges stem from an incident in Bellaire where officers responded to the sound of shots. Bertram's vehicle was seen leaving the scene and he led a pursuit at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, resulting in his vehicle and the police vehicle crashing.
Solovan noted that he Bertram was apprehended Aug. 10 and accused of another drug-related charge.
John Robert Ramser Jr., 52, 226 Highland Avenue, Wheeling, was sentenced on one count of domestic violence, a felony of the fourth degree occurring March 3, 2013. He was sentenced to five years of community control sanctions. He will serve up to six months in jail with credit for 164 days, and six months EOCC. He will then be subject to 12 months of intensive supervised probation, and 36 months of probation. He will undergo counseling and complete 40 hours of community service. Solovan noted that Ramser's past record indicates a pattern of such behavior related to drug and alcohol use.
Derek Martin Shook, 27, 333 East High St., Flushing, saw the revocation of his probation after admitting to the use of illicit substances and failing to meet his court obligations. His community control sanctions were terminated and he was sentenced to 60 days in jail with credit for 17, and six months EOCC. He was originally convicted of trafficking in drugs, a felony of the fourth degree occurring Nov. 22, 2010, and two counts of possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree.
Robert Lee Asbury, 30, 631 Hanover St., Martins Ferry, pleaded guilty to one count of burglary, a felony of the fourth degree occurring Oct. 8, 2012. Sentence was set for Sept. 27. A pre-sentence investigation, victim impact statement and EOCC evaluation were ordered. He faces a maximum sentence of 18 months.
Ryan Gregory Johnson, 23, 3342 Guernsey St., Bellaire, saw the revocation of his bond for the use of illicit substances. He is accused of burglary, a felony of the second degree occurring April 24, 2013. His trial is set for Sept. 10, and plea agreement Aug. 30
Kasey E. Vinson, 34, 116 W. South St., Barnesville, pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice, a felony of the fifth degree occurring Nov. 1, 2012. Sentence was set for Oct. 11. A pre-sentence investigation and EOCC evaluation were ordered.
Brent Edward Tribett, 47, currently incarcerated in West Virginia, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to one count of failure to comply with the order of a police officer, a felony of the third degree, and one count possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree, both occurring Sept. 1, 2012. His status conference was set for Aug. 30, with plea agreement deadline Sept. 27 and trial Oct. 17. He faces a maximum of 48 months.
