Merrill Stevens recorded the closest to the pin and Jim Williams had the closest to the pin on the second shot during senior league play. The low gross team went to Millhone and Ullmann with a 34, while the low net went to Bickford and Coblentz.
I was surprised to learn this past week that Thadd Obecney, the standout senior at Wheeling Park, is no longer enrolled at the school and on the Patriots' golf team.
It was nothing to do with discipline or anything of the such. He opted to take classes online, so he could continue to play high-level competition of golf because high school rules call for him to shut down the play in outside events after a certain date.
Obecny criss-crossed the country all summer, playing in events all over the place as he prepares for his collegiate career at Central Florida.
The second annual Rick Bear Memorial Golf Outing will be held on Sept. 21 at Cadiz Country Club. The event will begin with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee is $240 for a foursome, which includes hot dogs and beverages at the turn as well as dinner after the round. There will be cash prizes for the top three teams. The proceeds of the event benefit the Harrison County Little League Baseball Association. For more information, please contact Adam Bear at 740-391-3074.
