JUST?YOU of Martins Ferry is celebrating its customers with a brunch and fashion show on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Wheeling Park Stone Clubhouse. All models in the style show are breast cancer survivors. Preparing for the event are Just You staff members, front, Debbie Weeks; back, owner Jane Wine and Barb Hilton.

"We want our ladies to know that just because you had a mastectomy, you can still look good and feel good," Weeks explained. "We start by fitting you in a bra and prosthesis. There's a lot of beautiful clothes out there, and we'll teach you to do some make up and feel good about yourself."

Dr. Rosemaire Hardin of Wheeling Hospital will be the special guest speaker. Hardin, who specializes in breast surgery, was eager to participate in the event, according to Weeks, who noted the doctor made some schedule changes in order to attend.

A representative from Nusta Cosmetics in Shadyside will also be attendance. The company specializes in permanent make up - tattooed eyeliner, eyebrows, lips - and will be able to answer questions for anyone interested.

In addition, staff members from A Cut Above hair salon in Martins Ferry will also attend the event. Weeks explained that A Cut Above will cut Just You's wigs. "We've had people come for a wig, and they need to get it shaped," Weeks said, explaining that it's important for a wig to be cut and trimmed to flatter its wearer. "We encourage them to take it over to A Cut Above and get it shaped and see what it looks like."

Sometimes customers return and say that the wig was cut while they were there, and Weeks said that customers are astonished that if they still don't want the wig, Just You will accept the return. However, Weeks said this doesn't happen very often, because once a customer sees how good a wig looks when it's been properly trimmed, they want to buy it. "Everyone that has gone there (A Cut Above) has been very happy, and sometimes they come back and buy two wigs," Weeks added.

Just will also have on display their bras, wigs, bathing suits, and t-shirts. They will also have a bead box so anyone who wants to make a special cancer survivor bracelet may do so.

Following the brunch, Just You will be open that afternoon to do fittings by appointment. The fittings will be held at the Just You building in Martins Ferry from 1 to 4 p.m. Call 633-2944 to make an appointment.

Weeks said these fittings are open to everyone. "You don't have to be a mastectomy patient. There are a lot of women out there who just need a fitting - they don't have a clue what size bra they wear."
