Passionate People

TIME AND time again the Beallsville community has displayed compassion and genuine care for a worthwhile cause.

The Blue Devil nation is legendary when it comes to raising money for cancer patients. But the town's goodwill knows no bounds.

It is well documented that the Switzerland of Ohio School District is in financial dire straits. Cutbacks have created many a hardship for all the schools in the expansive district.

One area which really felt the brunt of the cutbacks was transportation for athletic events. At first, the board of education eliminated all busing to athletic contests. It later amended that decision to allow busing if the costs were covered by the participating teams and they did not come out of the athletic department budget.

Bus trips to athletic events do not come cheaply. When you have some of the trips that the Blue Devils must navigate, it can be cost prohibitive. The fall athletic bus trips surpassed $56,000.

While Beallsville residents may not have deep pockets, they certainly have huge hearts. That was reinforced once again by an outpouring of financial support to ensure Blue Devil athletes traveled to games in appropriate fashion.

Beallsville Athletic Director Delmas Moore spearheaded the fundraising which met with a receptive and generous response.

Donations, of varying amounts, came in from individuals, groups, businesses and others not even associated with the school. Fundraisers also aided the cause.

Remarkably, all the transportation costs have been covered for all fall Beallsville athletic trips have been covered. The Blue Devil Nation has once again exhibited generosity beyond belief.
