St. John Central's Fallon Doyle will represent the area at next week's Ohio State Cross Championships after finishing second at Saturday's regional competition at Pickerington North High School.

The Irish junior finished second in the Division III race with a time of 19:14.3

''It was a good race,'' she said. ''The conditions weren't great. But other than that, it was a good race.''

Doyle will go for her third consecutive all-Ohio finish at 11 a.m. in the first of six races next week at Hebron's National Trail Raceway.

''I just want to PR (personal record) and, hopefully, get all-Ohio again, and have a good race,'' Doyle said.

Garaway, with three runners in the top 20, including champion Rachel Wentworth, won the team championship. Columbus Academy was second, with Mount Gilead third and Columbus South fourth.

''I was in the lead for the first mile and in the second mile everyone broke up,'' Doyle explained. ''Then, (Wetworth) was in the lead and I tried to follow her.''

Even with the chilly and windy conditions, Doyle kept pace with the Pirates sophomore and edged Columbus Academy's Julia Rizk by 10 seconds for the runner-up slot.

''The conditions weren't as ideal as I would've hoped, but I just went with the flow and ran the best race possible. I was very happy with how it turned out.''

Bellaire's girls were ninth in the team standings, with junior Danielle Stoner leading the way. Freshmen Taylor Stoner and Shaye Beckett were the next two runners to cross the finish line for the Big Reds.

Shadyside's McKayla Kinemond was 45th overall.

St. John's boys were 11th in the boys' race. Senior Aaron Ebbert led the way, finishing 40th.

Fort Frye and Caldwell both qualified for state as teams.

Martins Ferry freshman Jacob Bishop led the area contingent in the Division II boys' race.

St. Clairsville's trio of Alex Timko, Logan McCort and Kevin Simpson also competed.

Martins Ferry's Jamie Truchan didn't advance in the Division II girls' event.
