The most recent Republican/Tea Party orchestrate 16-37 partial shutdown of our federal government, which ended, for now, on Oct. 27, 2013, during which our economy suffered a $34 billion set-back as over 800,000 governmental employees were unceremoniously placed on temporary lay-off stylus, while simultaneously placing our great nation on the precipice of a self-imposed economic catastrophe that could well have placed our, as well as the world's, economy in very dire straits for many years to come. This is a result of the near default of our financial obligations by the same reactionary wing of the Republican Party, must as a response to professed budgetary concerns, including their opposition to the affordable care act.
Where were such individuals when President George W. Bush and Congressional Republicans took a budget surplus, inherited from Democrat President Bill Clinton, to an unprecedented large national deficit, at which time then Vice President Dick Cheney stated: "Deficits don't matter. Reagan proved that!"
As conservative icon Ronald Reagan previously had run up the largest national debt up to that time with literally no voiced objections from his Republican sycophants?
I wonder if the business community does not feel somewhat betrayed by the Republican Party, who has always touted their pro-business advocacy, as a result of such recent actions which arbitrarily placed their future growth prospects in needless jeopardy and uncertainty.
Our nation has now experienced 43 consecutive months of positive job growth (and counting) with our 7.6 million jobs created in the private sector, as we continue to progress from the throes of the worst recession since the Great Depression.
Just think where we would be as a nation if Republicans would reverse course and work, again, to ensure the betterment of our country and abandon their destructive policy of obstructionism.
As it now stands, we have been granted only a temporary reprieve, as our government could face another shutdown on January 15, 2014 and the debt ceiling has been extended only through Feb. 7, 2014.
Hopefully, those who would jeopardize our great nation for political purposes will see the error of their ways.
Such unjudicious actions through perhaps not fully intended, could well serve to jeopardize our nation's financial well-being to the extend our foreign enemies have tried but as yet thankfully have failed to accomplish.
