A UNIQUE shop is altering Bridgeport's downtown business district.

Behind The Seams Alterations opened its doors on Veterans Day at 310 Main St.

Faith Rausenberg is the owner, and her business is much more than sewing. She opted to open on Veterans Day, "to signify my love and devotions to those who have worked so hard to protect our freedom, and in memory of my loved ones who were veterans."

Rausenberg does a myriad of tasks: hemming, zipper replacement, general sewing, alterations, custom bridal veils, bridal and formal alterations, bustles, corset backs etc.

"I also offer quilt repair. I work with several dance studios to help with customizing and costume fittings," Rausenberg said. "My goal is to provide a service to the Bridgeport and surrounding communities where they can receive quality alterations they can afford. We custom fit for you.

"We are a Christian business and we cater to our customers. We also offer full-service laundry services to the oil/gas/pipeline industry, they can drop off their laundry, have it washed, folded and dried for a set price," she added. "I am excited to provide sewing services as low as $1 for small patches to be sewn. My price list is available on my website (www.aplainlady.wix.com/ behindtheseams)."

Store hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Faith is also available before and after closing if someone needs to make an appointment. The shop is closed on Sunday.

"I have been sewing for over 25 years. I am the proud step mom and mom to six lovely grown children. I have six beautiful granddaughters and I am patiently awaiting the arrival of another grandbaby," Rausenberg said. "I'm a sewing professional with a love of all things retro. I am a seamstress, a professional clothes maker and repairer. A female equivalent to a tailor, I design, sew and alter clothes, especially dresses or other female attire.

"I am also a dressmaker, but I typically take on a broader range of sewing tasks, including individual fittings, alterations and repairs," she continued. "I make custom wedding veils at a fraction of the cost one might purchase them elsewhere. I do bridal party alterations. I am also able to tailor men's wear. I enjoy sewing costuming for dance studios and I am available to sew onsite for them."

Rausenberg said her company motto is Proverbs 31:13 -- She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

"I am blessed by God for this opportunity. I can be found on Facebook and Twitter. I offer discounts to active-duty military, veterans, police, fire and EMS workers," she said.
