December 19, 2013

Resistance 13 have been getting some exposure opening for national acts in the Cleveland and Pittsburgh markets. The metal band from the Ohio Valley, with their lightening fast guitar solos and their grueling vocals featuring lead singer Jeremy Wright they are poised to release their new CD.

Wright, a 2001 Union Local graduate originally began writing music with Bryan Schneider of Centerville in 2009. Schneider provides guitar riffs and guttural screams for the group. They added three like-minded musicians from the area to form Resistance 13. Louie Balk of Tiltonsville is the drummer and provides a local practice facility for the band. Bryan Meeks of St. Clairsville handles the high speed bass guitar progressions while Ryan Husek staccato picking and soaring solos take the lead on guitar.

"We had a good friend pass away and that inspired us to take the next step and put together the band," Wright said. "It really put things in perspective for us."

The group performed locally on the club scene but recently has been chosen to open for Project 86 and most recently for Smile Empty Soul at The Agora Ballroom, a band they list as one of their influences along with Killswitch Engage, Nonpoint, 36 Crazyfists, All That Remains, Bullet For My Valentine, No Cash, A Day to Remember, Flobots, Rage against the Machine and Bassnectar.

"It was a collaborative effort recording the album," said Wright speaking for the group. "I write all the lyrics but we all contribute to the process of building the song."

"We have put so much into this project," Wright said. Funded by loyal fans, the band has been hard at work on their first full length studio album, "We want it to be released in the valley because this is our home."

Resistance 13 plan to release the self-titled album Jan. 11 in Wheeling. "We think our music has appeal beyond the genre of metal," Wright explained. "The message is universal."

Giving the album a listen, the opening instrumental track left me disappointed because it was the perfect lead in for a power ballad. The one element missing from the disc and a perfect fit I believe for Wright's vocal skills.

If you're a fan of metal of any kind do yourself a favor and check these guys out, because the remaining 10 tracks will not disappoint. Just by listening to the music you can tell these are a tight group of guys with a passion for metal that they want to share that passion with as many people as possible. They are more than ready for their big break, so if you are a fan, get tickets to the release party which will be held at the Wheeling Eagles beginning at 9 p.m.

"We want to bring the big show experience and fit it into a bar atmosphere," said Wright. "This is a big production and we are pulling out all of the stops for this show. We are the most entertaining and active band in the valley."

Also featured on the night will be local bands NeverWake and Chaos Killed. There will be a small $5 cover charge for the event. For ticket information visit them on their Facebook page or email Wright at resist13@
