BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport scored the first seven points of the game then Bailey McGrath dropped visiting Barnesville into a 10-2 hole with the first of his seven three-point aerials Friday night inside the John J. Havlicek Gymnasium. The hot-handed Bulldogs never looked back as they cruised to a 72-54 boys' basketball victory on Frank Baxter Court.

"We shot the ball well, but we got a lot of shots off in practice this week because we did not shoot the ball particularly well against Bellaire last Saturday," said Bridgeport head coach Donnie Cash. "I thought it was overall a good team effort tonight.

"We were balanced in scoring and we shared the ball," Cash added. "We made a couple extra passes to get those open threes for Bailey (McGrath) and (Cody) Seevers."

The Bulldogs were 6 of 9 from outside the arc in the first half mounting a 40-20 lead at the break. Bridgeport would not make a single trip to the foul line in the half.

"It is easier to shoot when you are unguarded," Barnesville head coach Chris Pack said following the game. "This is the first time in 16 years of coaching that I have had a team show up and not play defense.

"I will take 100 percent of the blame this time," Pack continued. "I did not have them ready to play and we were non-existent on the defensive end of the floor. We did not react, we did not anticipate, we were not a Barnesville basketball team tonight."

The Shamrocks would trail 60-33 after three quarters prompting coach Cash to give his reserves some varsity quarters.

McGrath would lead all scoring with 24 points. Q.J. Williams added 18 points while Parker Dyson scored 10 for the Bulldogs. Bridgeport finished with 11 three-point goals and made good on 3 of 4 opportunities from the charity stripe.

Isaac McGee would pace the Shamrocks with 13 points, Eric Nicholson added one dozen while David Stewart chipped in 11 points. Barnesville also shot well from the perimeter in the second half netting 9 treys. The Shamrocks were a perfect 11 of 11 at the foul line.

The Bulldogs stop their losing skid with the win and stand at 5-2 on the season. Tonight Bridgeport is hosting Madonna with a 5 o'clock jayvee tip off.

Barnesville falls to 1-4 and will be back in action on Monday at Bellaire.
