Cheerful Greeting

March 17, 2014
dsp Times Leader

THIS CHEERFUL greeting was sent from Marianna, Pa., to Calhoun County, W.Va., in February 1916, and the postage was a penny. It's not surprising that the sender notes that family members were suffering from colds during the long-ago winter. We thought this might be a "Cheerful Greeting" for a Happy St. Patrick's Day, as the shamrock appears on the greeting and the card reads, "Thinking of You." The postage is now $.45 for a post card. Long time from 1916? From the Bessie Gatchel Collection.
