Dana Holgorsen is bringing his West Virginia Mountaineers to Wheeling next weekend. And members of B-MAC are eagerly awaiting their arrival.
''It's great,'' said John S. Marshall, one of the heads of the area Mountaineer Athletic Club support group. ''It's so wonderful having them going around the state. And the nice thing is it's a practice so maybe they'll be able to spend some one-on-one time with the fans.''
The open practice at Wheeling Island Stadium will take place from 1-3 p.m.
''I just wanted to do it,'' Holgorsen said during a recent spring football news conference. ''I came up with the idea and no one was telling me to do it.
''I talked to Alex (Hammond, director of football ops) and there were come compliance issues that we had to work with.
''Just like the spring game is, we just wanted to open these up and let everyone watch and show people across the state that we will be a product out there that they can be proud of.''
WVU will be on a bit of a barnstorming tour. In addition to the Wheeling practice, the Mountaineers will also conduct open workouts in Charleston (April 5) and Morgantown (March 29).
''Then, on Saturday, April 12, we will have the spring game,'' Holgorsen said. ''All four of those practices will be open to the public.
''We want all of Mountaineer nation to be able to come and watch the Mountaineers to see what we're putting out there and see what the product is. I think everyone is going to be pleasantly surprised with what the product is going to be.''
Marshall and his B-MAC cohorts are looking forward to it. Steubenville High's Shaq Petteway will be among the players working out.
''I just think it's a win-win for everyone,'' he said. ''The fans will do well and the team will get to see some of the fans.''
''It's a perfect venue. We're fortunate to have a venue like Wheeling Island Stadium here in the valley.''
Marshall said he's hoping to see between 50 and 100 B-MAC members in attendance. Anyone looking for more information about B-MAC can contact Marshall at (740) 695-4262 or email@example.com
''We'll have our B-MAC banner flying proudly,'' he said.
