The heat sure is on in the Ohio Valley and late last week the Buds were in search of a refreshing treat.
There had been quite a few rumors floating around in Taste Bud circles concerning a certain new frozen yogurt joint at the Highlands. When Bud Em's little Bud was about to make her third trip there within a week's time, the Buds decided it was time. Time to saddle up and head to Mooey's to see what all the fuss was about!
Mooey's Frozen Yogurt is located between Tony's Nails and the West Liberty Highlands Center and operates in a self-serve fashion. There are ten yogurt flavors at a time, and customers simply choose a cup size and fill it with as much yogurt and toppings as they please. Each person's unique creations is then priced according to its weight.
During the Buds' visit, soft-serve yogurt flavors were Chocolate Classic, Peanut Butter, Country Vanilla, Raspberry, Very Strawberry, New York Cheesecake, Mango Tango, Original Tart, Cookies 'N Cream and Cake Batter. Quite the selection! But that's not all - they also have a whopping 42 toppings to choose from. These include choices of various fruits and berries, brownie bites, chocolate chip cookie dough, Cap'n Crunch, chocolate covered pretzels, granola, nearly every candy bar imaginable, marshmallows, nuts, gummy bears and worms, sour gummies, sprinkles and more. There is also caramel, chocolate syrup and whipped cream.
As you can imagine, with so many flavor and topping choices, there are infinite flavor combinations to be made - and the Buds sure had fun coming up with some tasty creations.
There were about a million things Bud Em wanted to cram into her medium sized cup, and she made a valiant effort to squeeze in as many as possible. They included peanut butter, Cookies 'N Cream and chocolate flavored yogurts topped with chopped pecans, mini white chocolate chips, crushed Oreo's and a healthy dose of Cap'n Crunch. The whole sha-bang weighed in at $7.02, and it tasted glorious. It was very easy to see why her little Bud kept raving about Mooey's!
Bud Shaunna grabbed a "medium" cup, which was nothing short of the size of a small trough once it was filled with yogurty goodness, and went to town. She tried to use one of the compartment separators but towards the end pulled it out and let all the yumminess meld together. And what did she add to this cup of joy? Cookies 'N Cream, Cake Batter, New York Cheesecake and Peanut Butter please! Hmm, guess the fruity selections will have to wait until next time.
Bud S. tried to control herself with the toppings and added some Cap'n Crunch, chopped nuts and white chocolate chips. Once it was all weighed, the total came to $6.82 - but there was A LOT of yogurt in that cup!
All the flavors were pretty good, but Bud Shaunna liked the Cake Batter flavor the best, followed by the Peanut Butter. It was a glutinous, enjoyable treat, especially seated outside in the warm air.
With so many options and different flavor combinations, it's quite possible to try something different every single time you visit. Stop by Mooey's and let us know what you think - we'll probably already be there waiting in line!
