CAMBRIDGE - Deerassic Park Education Center in Cambridge will welcome back their Kicking Bear friends for the ninth annual One-on-One Archery Shoot and Campout in Ohio, held on June 20 and 21.
Pre registration is open and folks are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Meals are provided and are planned based off of the pre-registration numbers and this event is right around the corner. Please call 740-435-9500 or go to www.deerassic.com under the kicking bear link to pre-register. All release forms are available online and must be completed by the legal guardian of the child. Remember this is not a drop off event. Many children will attend this event with someone that is not their legal guardian but whomever brings them needs to help provide additional "eyes" so that everyone stays safe and has fun!
Attendees can begin arriving at 2 p.m., with on-site registration open at 3 p.m. and activities beginning at 4 p.m. All meals and equipment are provided for the attendees. Everyone is encouraged to campout making the only things they need to bring being tents and sleeping bags.
The purpose of the Kicking Bear Program is to provide one-on-one mentoring. It encourages our sportsmen and women to get involved with today's youth by becoming mentors. The unique course at Deerassic gives the kids not only fun things to practice shooting at, but some participants are getting their first realistic and life-size look at how these animals might appear in their natural surroundings. Other evening activities that are typically included are fishing, rifelry and canoeing.
Kicking Bear and Deerassic Park have many similarities between the two organizations. While both are interested in re-connecting youth with the outdoor world, the Kicking Bear organization places emphasis on providing mentoring opportunities and Deerassic Park focuses on affording youth an opportunity to increase participation through educational programs and community outreach.
