IF YOU suffer from friggatriskaidekaphobia or triskaidekaphobia, today isn't your day.
The fear of Friday the 13th is known as friggatriskaidekaphobia while triskaidekaphobia is a fear of the number, 13.
On the plus side, however, it's the only day in 2014 that you'll probably suffer from those phobias.
Some years have two or three Friday the 13th occurrences, but this year is an exception.
Although persons fearing that particular day only have to contend with it once this year, 2015 will have three Fridays that happen on the 13th of the month.
Millions of Americans, according to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute of Asheville, N.C., are afraid of Friday the 13th. Some people won't start a new project or trip on that day; others report to employers that they're sick, and some buildings don't list a 13th floor.
Persons with this fear might have a mild case of anxiety while others could suffer panic attacks.
Many link the number, 13, with the Bible. They contend the flood in the times of Noah began on a Friday and that Eve tempted Adam with the apple on Friday.
Then, too, 13 were at the Last Supper, and Judas who betrayed Jesus supposedly was the last to arrive. Also, Jesus was crucified on a Friday.
It would be rather hard to prove any Friday connections with Noah, Eve and the arrival of Judas.
FRIGG, considered by many to be similar to Venus, is the Norse goddess for whom Friday was named.
There's also a superstitution linked to Friday the 13th in Norse mythology. That story involves Loki, a malevolent god, who wasn't invited to a banquet but attended anyway with the number rising to 13. Chaos resulted and Balder, one of the good gods, was killed.
Although some people in North America and Europe consider 13 as being unlucky, the ancient Egyptians thought it was lucky since they believed the 13th stage of life was related to the afterlife.
IF AN individual has an unpleasant experience on Friday the 13th, that person might believe the day actually is unlucky - despite evidence to the contrary.
They should remember that unpleasant things also happen on other days which have nothing to do with 13 or Friday.
