"Boys of Summer"

THESE "Boys of Summer" who were on the United Mine Workers of America team at Zini's Park, Blaine in 1939 is Phil Niekro Sr., who taught his two sons to pitch the knuckleball and they went on to have the most victories for any brother combination in the major leagues. His son, Phil Jr., was seleceted for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., in 1997. Identified except for the first person at the left in the front row are: Andy Pollack, Alex Nagy, Louis Markovich, John Marx, Andy Kutchmyer, John "Lefty" Urick, Mike Kowalski, Mike Kapral, John Rafe, Andy Zelentz, Tom James, Joe Corte, Felix Deland, Nicholas McKay, Phil Niekro Sr., "Doc" Trouten and Wilbur Coates.
