Soap Box Cars, 1937

July 1, 2014
Times Leader

SOAP BOX Derby cars, constructed by youngsters in 1937, were not the sleek models fashioned today. Derby participants in this September event in '37 posed in front of the old Engine No. 1 fire station on South Fifth Street in Martins Ferry. Recently the Soap Box Derby was held and the cars are designed much different and race down Hanover Street to catch a winner. Ask the drivers today if they would like to race in these cars.
