BELLAIRE The two-week Safety Camp for Kids is scheduled for July 21-Aug. 1 at Belmont Community Health Center.
Sponsored by Belmont Community Hospital (BCH), a division of Wheeling Hospital, the camp is modeled after the extremely popular Safety Town, held each year at Wheeling Hospital. In fact, Safety Camp uses the same miniature village and cars children have enjoyed for years at Wheeling Hospital's event.
The Safety Camp is for children ages 4-6 and will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday for the two-week run. Up to 40 children, from Ohio or West Virginia, can register. The cost is $35 per child.
Sessions will involve such safety education topics as street and road safety; seat belts; safety with bikes, roller blades, skateboards and scooters; stranger and animal safety; parked cars and school bus safety; fire safety; poison and home safety; and playground safety.
The children will hear safety tips from various fire and police departments.
Each day, the participants will receive a healthy snack. A graduation party, which parents can attend, will be held the last day of Safety Camp.
Teen volunteers, ages 14 and up, are needed to help with Safety Camp, and may receive community service hours for school.
