ADENA - Jamboree in the Hills is the place to be this week, but not everyone is able to get there. That's why Becky Goundry, Activities Director at Autumn Healthcare of Adena, decided to bring the party to residents of the rehabilitation and assisted living facility.
She started telling residents about her idea, and the response was enthusiastic. The staff has been planning for months, and Autumn Healthcare's own Jamboree was held on Friday afternoon. Residents were treated to a day spent outside listening to country music on the radio, with cowboy hats and colored beads to celebrate in the appropriate attire.
Darla Spence, Director of Nursing, parked her RV on the lawn to make the event feel more authentic, while the Harrisville Fire Department loaned out tents and chairs. There were also cornhole boards set up, and a number of local businesses donated food, including the Dairy Jean of Harrisville, the Yorkville Bakery and J.P's Restaurant while Autumn Healthcare employees brought many dishes themselves. Patriotic decorations added the finishing touches.

Spence remarked that it was nice to see the community chip in, and to see families visiting with their relatives. Madeline Doyle, daughter of Autumn employee Alana Doyle, said she was happy to visit with the residents during the party.
"I like to come out here and talk to everyone. They're always excited to see you," she explained.
The residents were even treated to Jell-O shots (non-alcoholic), and had their own Redneck Cooler Run, a milder version of the Redneck Run, in which Jamboree attendees race for the best seats to watch the musicians. For the Redneck Cooler Run, residents held styrofoam coolers on their laps while staff raced them to their tables.
Resident Margie Gavorcik, who was sitting with boyfriend Leland McGill, was all smiles for the event.
"We're having a wonderful time today," she said.
