The Buds love stuff. Food stuff, especially. And after a recent trip to Cambridge, the Buds know of a great place to get all sorts of tasty food stuffs!
McKenna's Market, located at 705 Wheeling Ave. in downtown Cambridge, touts its special gourmet, local and artisan foods in a hip country urban setting. McKenna's features more than 200 bulk snacks, dried veggies, fruits, candies and spices. In addition to offering fresh ground coffees and teas, McKenna's also has for sale its private label line of more than 100 jams, preserves, fruit butters and canned items such as pickles, relish and salsa. Vintage soda and candies, hand dipped ice cream, Coblentz gourmet chocolates, a salad/olive bar and a variety of cheese and meat are also available, along with craft beers and award winning wines. Vegan items are also offered.
As if that's not enough, McKenna's sub menu is available every day and features subs like McKenna's Favorite (capicola, salami, pepperoni and four cheese Italian blend), Wheeling Avenue (corned beef, ham, capicola, swiss and cheddar) and a Grilled Veggie featuring an assortment of grilled veggies and cheeses. You also have the option to create your own sub by choosing up to three meats, up to two cheeses, toppings and condiments. In addition to the sub menu, you can also opt for a healthier choice from the salad menu, also available every day. One tasty sounding option is the Turkey Cobb Salad (turkey, cheddar, bacon, eggs, red onion, tomato, cucumbers, black olives and bagel croutons).

The Buds were quite intrigued with the shear number of items in the store and decided to shop through them. Next time, we'll be sure to give the subs and salads a try!
Bud Em, who is by nature a snacker, picked out a handful of goodies to munch on during work. Among them were flavored popcorns made by Campbell's Sweets of Cleveland, a package of chocolate covered cookie dough bits, and a flavored water to wash it down with.
In flavors of Beer Cheddar and Dill Pickle, the gourmet popcorn was definitely a hit, especially the beer cheese - YUM! Beer, cheese and popcorn - a trifecta of deliciousness. Just don't dig in without a napkin or moist towelette handy to clean your fingers! The Buds LOVE dill and were eager to taste the other flavor but ultimately agreed that the dill pickle was a wee bit tart for the their palates.

This is precisely when the lavender mint herbal water came in handy. Ayala's Herbal Water, made with all natural, organic ingredients, was cool and refreshing - infused with lavender (Bud Em is on a lavender kick) and spearmint. Bud Em will surely be picking up more of these when she sees them.
The chocolate covered cookie dough bites were the perfect thing to tuck into a desk drawer at the office for whenever a sweet treat was necessary.
Bud Shaunna, who unlike her Bud cohort doesn't usually snack, decided to pick up a handful of sweet treats. She was immediately drawn to a childhood favorite - Chuckles. Five gummy candies of deliciousness were just like Bud S remembered, although when did they sneak a black licorice flavored Chuckle in there? Bud S swore up and down that used to be grape. To make up for the sugar indulgence, Bud Shaunna also snagged a bag of Brazil nuts. If snacking must be done, nuts are the most sensible option!
Almost as if they were calling her, Bud S was drawn to a stockpile of uniquely flavored Hammond's candy bars. Not very often do you see Whoopie Pie, Sea Salted Caramel or Malted Milkshake flavored chocolate bars. Bud S immediately selected Red Velvet Cake, as it's always been a favorite of both her and Bud Hubby. And then, she saw it - a candy bar called Pigs N' Taters. Milk chocolate mixed with bacon and potato chips?! Well, this we HAD to try!
While the concept may sound a little disgusting, think along the lines of a chocolate covered pretzel - the salt and the sweet make a very nice combination. The Buds have had bacon on dessert before, and while neither were huge fans, Bud Hubby picked up the slack and "took one for the team" by nearly inhaling said Pigs N' Taters candy bar. All Bud S could deduce from his chocolate eating frenzy was that it was "really good."
McKenna's Market is bound to have pretty much any market item your heart could desire, and the Buds encourage you to take a trip and visit them!
