IT MIGHT be called the Crooked Dock, but let us tell ya it's straight-up delish!
On a recent sunny afternoon, the Buds were able to finish up ahead of schedule at the office. Without any hesitation, they decided to make the most of the little reprieve and headed out in search of a good meal. After a short drive up the river, the Buds dropped anchor in Wellsburg at the Crooked Dock located at 30 12th St.
Opting to take full advantage of being out of the office on such a fine day, the gals decided to sit on the large outdoor deck/dining area where they could enjoy the pleasant scenery of the Ohio River. With cold ice water to keep cool, the Buds began to study the menu. The Crooked Dock offers patrons a wide selection of appetizers, wings, hoagies, burgers, salads and dinners. Dinners are served daily from 3 to 10 p.m., so even thought the Buds weren't able to order them, they did note that they sounded really good! Among them were steaks, crab stuffed shrimp, scampi with angel hair pasta, chicken parmesan and beef tips, all of which ring in at the 13 - 15 dollar range.
Chicken Philly wrap and sweet potato fries
The menu features a bevy of fried apps including deep fried pickles (yum!), zucchini sticks and fried ravioli; one, two and three pound orders of wings which can be dressed with one of 11 different flavored sauces; nachos, jalapeno or cheddar shrimp jammers; coconut shrimp and crab rangoon. Fry lovers are sure to be pleased with their selection of Contraband Fries loaded with cheese and bacon, Godfather Fries smothered in gravy and sweet potato fries with brown sugar dipping sauce. While everything sounded yummy, the Buds ultimately settled on items from the sandwich section which features black angus burgers, chicken, fish and several hoagies and wraps.
Bud Em is always a sucker for a good Pittsburgh-style sammy, so she immediately set her sights on the Titanic which can be made Italian, ham, roast beef or turkey style - topped with melted cheddar, provolone and mozzarella cheeses and topped with hand cut fries, slaw and special sauce. Be prepared: the whole hoagie which rings in at $9.85 is a whopping 16"!!! Needless to say, Bud Em went for the half which was $6.85.
It was a monster! The thick bun was absolutely filled with turkey, cheeses, slaw and a TON of fries. It seriously had to be cut down into small pieces just to be able to take a bite. In fact, said Bud could only get through about two thirds of it before abandoning ship. (But that might have had something to do with the amazing sweet potato fries - more on that later!) The sandwich was very tasty and certainly filling, with the tangy slaw adding a nice crunch. Bud Em would surely eat this one again.
Bud Shaunna decided to give the Chicken Philly wrap a whirl for a little under 7 bucks. Served with a bag of chips, the grilled wrap was stuffed with tender diced chicken breast, sweet onions and green peppers, mayo and melted Provolone cheese. Soft, cheesy and satisfying, this tasty wrap was a big winner with Bud S.
Eating the entire wrap was challenging, however, because Bud S also ordered the Sweet Potato Fries to share with Bud Em for $5.85. A basket loaded with crinkle-cut sweet potato fries came with a brown sugar dipping sauce which can only be described as deliciously sinful. It took a certain technique to scoop up some of the dip onto each fry, but once the Buds got the hang of it, the dip went faster than the fries!
The Buds would definitely sail back to this port! With a great atmosphere and tasty food at good prices, The Crooked Dock is sure to bring you a ray of sunshine.
