Goodworks Veterinary Hospital helping humane society

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Area residents can donate items to help adoptable kittens housed by the Belmont County Humane Society and join a raffle at Goodworks Veterinary Hospital.

The “Fill the Sleigh for the Strays” collection and “Santa Paws is coming to Town” raffle are fundraisers Goodworks Veterinary Hospital is having that provide supplies and raise money for the humane society’s 60 adoptable cats.

People can donate items such as cat litter, cat food, litter boxes, paper towels, crates, blankets and toys from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at Goodworks Veterinary Hospital at 107 S. Marietta St. in St. Clairsville.

They can donate to the “Fill the Sleigh for the Strays” fundraiser until Jan. 2.

If people donate an item, they will be entered in a drawing to win a prize. If someone gets the Max or Grinch card, they can pick another prize.

Local businesses, such as Starbucks, Advance Auto Parts, Autozone and Legacy Family Dentistry donated items for prizes. Some other prizes include a coffee mug and iced coffee maker.

People can buy tickets for the raffle of a money tree, which is a small tree with close to $500 in gift cards and lottery tickets that is still growing. Dr. Danielle Carson said the 50/50 raffle gained over $1,200 last year. A 60-inch flat screen Samsung TV will be raffled off as well.

The raffle is going on until Dec. 9. Goodworks Veterinary Hospital will draw the raffle on its Facebook page and call the winners.

Carson said the items being collected are needed to keep the society’s adoptable cats healthy.

“For the humane society, all the items that we collect are things that they need to keep the cats healthy and fed,” she said. “And then the money goes to help provide the vet care for them, vaccines … neuters, (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) tests.”

Carson said there are some really nice prizes this year. On the gift card tree are also some practical things, such as an oil change and dance club gift card, she said, so it’s a good value for somebody.

She added that winning the 50/50 could mean extra spending cash for Christmas.

Carson said the hospital does another event during the St. Clairsville Christmas parade from noon until it’s over on Dec. 8 by opening up its lobby, giving away free hot dogs, cookies and hot chocolate, and asking people to look at the raffle items and buy tickets that day.
