Monroe County Sheriff’s Office makes two arrests after finding narcotics and firearms
WOODSFIELD — Monroe County sheriff’s deputies arrested two Woodsfield residents on Wednesday after discovering narcotics and illegally owned firearms.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about an ATV at 10:36 p.m. Wednesday on Stonehouse Road in Wayne Township, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. The caller said that the ATV was driving through their yard.
Deputy Noah Ramsay arrived at the scene and saw two individuals on an ATV near the intersection of Ohio 26 and Stonehouse Road.
Sheriff Charles Black Jr. said that Ramsay tried to get the ATV to stop by turning on his car’s police lights. Instead of stopping, Black said, the ATV driver allegedly accelerated. Ramsay followed the ATV and located it, the driver and the passenger at a camper on Stonehouse Road.
The driver was identified as Matthew M. Huntsman, 42, of Woodsfield, and the passenger was identified as Rachele N. Wiley, 30, of Woodsfield.
Ramsay and Deputy Brock Jones investigated the incident further and discovered suspected narcotics and drug abuse instruments in the camper, according to the release. Deputies also reportedly found a firearm in the camper.
Black said that neither suspect could legally own a firearm due to them both having legal disqualifiers.
The sheriff’s office arrested both Huntsman and Wiley and transported them to the Monroe County Jail.
Later on Wednesday, Lt. Mike Russell further investigated the incident and reportedly discovered that an additional firearm and narcotics were thrown from the ATV while Ramsay was pursuing the vehicle.
Deputies, detectives and K-9 Max searched the area and found a .45-caliber pistol and additional narcotics, the release states.
Huntsman is being held on charges of failure to comply, aggravated possession of drugs and two counts of having weapons under disability.
Wiley is charged with one count of aggravated possession of drugs.
