Flushing woman injured in crash

FLUSHING — A Flushing resident was flown from the scene of a traffic accident by medical helicopter on Saturday.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Rocky Hise said the accident remained under investigation Sunday, but he was able to release some details. The collision occurred Saturday afternoon and involved a 2019 Kenworth that was traveling south on Ohio 331 and a 2009 Nissan Murano that was headed north on Ohio 331. Hise noted that the Kenworth, owned by Maverick Contracting of Lisbon, Ohio, was not a typical tractor-trailer; instead, he said it was a “single unit for hauling rolloffs” and was empty at the time of the accident.

According to Hise, the Nissan, driven by Alexa Stump, 29, of Flushing, crossed the centerline of the roadway and collided head on with the Kenworth in the southbound lane. He did not yet know on Sunday what may have caused the driver to cross into the oncoming lane of traffic.

Hise said Stump was trapped inside her vehicle and, once extricated, was flown by Healthnet Aeromedical Services to WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. He said he believed her condition to be serious but stable late Sunday.

The Kenworth driver, Dennis Stansoucie, 59, of Jewett was not injured.

Hise noted that in addition to the patrol, the Cumberland Trail Fire District and Belmont County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene. He added that it was too soon to speculate about potential charges related to the crash since the investigation was continuing on Sunday.
