Minor female shot in the leg in Bellaire
BELLAIRE — One juvenile and a 22-year-old man were involved in an incident late Sunday in which a minor female was shot in the leg in Bellaire, leaving her hospitalized.
The Bellaire Police Department received a call at 11:38 p.m. Sunday regarding shots fired in the area of the 4300 block of Franklin Street and the 4200 block of Harrison Street, according to Police Chief J.J. Watson.
Officers arrived on the scene to find a 17-year-old female with a gunshot wound to her right leg. The victim told responding officers who had shot her in the leg.
Officers then went to the home of the suspect, a 17-year-old male from Bellaire, and took him into custody. During the investigation, officers discovered that another male, 22-year-old Reuben Hilson from Martins Ferry, allegedly was involved in the incident. Hilson was in the area with a handgun that he was firing, according to police.
Both Hilson and the 17-year-old male were arrested and charged with felonious assault. Hilson was transported to the Belmont County Jail, while the male juvenile was transported to Sargus Juvenile Center. The 17-year-old female victim was transported to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital for treatment.
Officers recovered a Taurus 62c 9mm handgun and several loaded magazines, according to Watson.
The police department was still investigating the case Monday, Watson said.
