Enjoy a show and support a good cause this weekend

BARNESVILLE — People can listen to a Barnesville middle schooler sing his songs Saturday while raising money for the family of Parker Miley, a little girl with cancer.
Bryar Shilling, a seventh grade student at Barnesville Middle School, will play three songs of his at the event to help bring people in and raise money for Miley’s family from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Shady Lane Event Center, 94 Shady Lane, Barnesville.
“I feel like this is a great opportunity for us to show support for the family. I mean, it’s clearly impacted a lot of a lot of people, knowing that this little girl is sick and has been battling,” Natasha said. “It’s going to be just a great event for a great cause.”
Parker Miley is an 11-year-old fifth grade student at Shenandoah, who in the fall of 2023, was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her parents said she’s been fighting cancer like the “champ” she is.
However, in January 2024, Parker contracted a rare Nocardia infection and spent several weeks battling it in the hospital. Once she became infection free and came home, she continued to receive chemotherapy throughout the year.
Then, in early December, she got a fever and was admitted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, where it was confirmed she had Candida Dubliniensis, a fungal infection, throughout her entire body, including her lungs, eyes and skin.
Her parents said her body was already weak from chemotherapy, so it couldn’t fight the infection like it needed to. They said December was a roller coaster with the family living minute to minute, not sure of what was happening. Parker was on as much support as possible.
Parker does occupational and physical therapy and is getting better, now with a tracheostomy. She is awake and interacting with people and is able to respond with head shakes.
Natasha Shilling, event organizer and Bryar’s mother, reached out to Trent Brownfield, who owns the event center, to see if she could have an event there to raise funds after she and Briar talked about wanting to help the family in some way.
Bryar said he wants to do the show because he enjoys helping people and performing.
All of the money raised will be by donation, including the cost to get in and the concession stand. Proceeds will go to the Miley family to help pay for normal bills, transportation and food costs. Parker’s mom and dad, Chad and Melissa, have both been off work since Dec. 9.
Natasha is also very grateful that people from the community have donated many items for the concession stand.
“I just feel like everyone around this area always wants to support anyone that’s going through a difficult time,” Natasha said. “So I feel the donation can help with their transportation costs going back and forth to the hospital. Anything to just help show the support for this little girl.”
Natasha said the money can’t compensate for everything the family went through, but this can help with what the family is struggling with right now.
Melissa spends the majority of her time at the hospital with Parker.
“Parker showed them she was not giving up,” her parents said. “We know it was because of all of your prayers to God that Parker is making miraculous progress. … As her nurse said, ‘Stronger everyday.’ Throughout this battle, Parker always said, ‘Faith over fear.'”
