Union Local High School Drama Club to present ‘The Wizard of Oz’

BELMONT — The Union Local High School Drama Club will present its production of “The Wizard of Oz” on March 27, 28 and 29.
Based on L. Frank Baum’s beloved novel and the classic 1939 film, “The Wizard of Oz” follows young Dorothy, played by Junior Maggie Milliken, as she is whisked away by a tornado to the magical land of Oz. In her quest to return home, she encounters three unlikely companions: the Scarecrow, played by Senior Gilby Carpenter, who longs for a brain; the Tin Man, played by Junior Trenton Meyer, who wishes for a heart; and the Cowardly Lion, played by Senior Bailey Freeman, who seeks courage. Together, they follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City, hoping that the mysterious Wizard of Oz, played by Senior Pierce Luyster, will grant their wishes.
However, their journey is not without danger as the Wicked Witch of the West, played by Sophomore Ylenia King, is determined to capture Dorothy and reclaim the powerful ruby slippers. Luckily, Glinda the Good Witch, played by Junior Maddison Duffey, offers guidance and protection along the way. The cast also features Sophomore Gage Phillips as Uncle Henry, Senior Elana Bugay as Aunt Em, Senior Savannah Springer as the formidable Miss Gulch, and Junior Maliyah Boley as the Emerald City Guard, along with a talented ensemble bringing the world of Oz to life.
Along with the show itself, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of exciting extras, including raffle baskets, concessions, and flowers for sale. There will also be chances to win a handcrafted Wizard of Oz quilt as well as a hand-painted Wizard of Oz side table, both of which are unique keepsakes that celebrate the magic of the show.
Performances will take place on March 27th, 28th, and 29th at 7:00 p.m., with an additional matinee performance on March 29th at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and children three and under get in free. All performances will be held in the ULHS/ULMS Auditorium.
This production is a true celebration of creativity, teamwork, and the power of storytelling, and the cast and crew invite the entire community to join them for this unforgettable journey to Oz. For more information and updates, follow Union Local Theatre Department on Facebook.
