Bethlehem Temple’s annual ‘Stuff The Bus’ happens today

WHEELING — The Bethlehem Apostolic Temple is preparing for its annual Easter giveaway, and it’s time to “Stuff The Bus” with the items that are needed.

The church will host its “Stuff The Bus” event from 4-6 p.m. today at Riesbeck’s in Elm Grove. Representatives from the church will be outside the store collecting donations that will be used for their Easter Food Basket Giveaway, set for 11 a.m. on April 19 at the North Wheeling Dream Center.

Donations of foods, hygiene products and money will be accepted, said Bishop Darrell Cummings.

Cummings noted a list of items needed will be provided to those wanting to give. Among the items are boxes of macaroni and cheese, and cans of corn and green beans.

Beyond the food, there are wants for hygiene products such as deodorant, and for cleaning products.

“We will give them out to those in need,” Cummings said. “If somebody wants to buy a ham to give out, it will be appreciated. You can also give financially.

“Also, you can buy food from somewhere else and bring it to stock the bus.”

He acknowledged the church is dealing with a different environment this year, and facing uncertain obstacles.

“Sadly, for the first time in a long time, we’ve lost some support,” Cummings said. “We heard from a sponsor who is dealing with financial challenges themselves that they will no longer be able to sponsor us.”

Amid the uncertainty of tariffs, food prices are increasing and there are more people in need, he added.

“But there are no tariffs on God’s love,” Cummings continued. “We want to help as many people as possible.”

The church’s “Stuff The Bus” events happen twice a year — at Easter, and just before students return to school in August.

The donation requests at Easter are primarily for food, hygiene and cleaning products, while the one in late summer is for back-to-school supplies, he explained.

“It’s fun to get out and meet people,” he said. “We are blessed to help others. We appreciate anyone coming to take the time to come help out.”
