Martins Ferry man arrested on drug charges by WPD

WHEELING — Wheeling police arrested a Martins Ferry man over the weekend on multiple drug charges after he allegedly fled from police on Wheeling Island.

Around 5:40 p.m. Friday, officers initiated a traffic stop on South Wabash Street. When the vehicle came to a halt, the passenger, later identified as 25-year-old Daquain Bass of Martins Ferry, exited the car and ran from the officer. After a brief foot chase, Bass was apprehended and placed under arrest.

During the investigation, officers discovered a range of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and marijuana, according to a news release.

Bass faces three felony counts of possession with intent to deliver. Additionally, he had two outstanding warrants for fleeing related to previous incidents. He was also a wanted fugitive on two felony charges from Belmont County.

Bass was taken to the Northern Regional Jail at Moundsville, where bond was set at $151,000, cash only.
