ST. CLAIRSVILLE — A St. Clairsville kindergartener has the skill to draw at a junior high level, which resulted in his art being entered into a contest and displayed at the Ohio Valley Mall.
Elementary art teacher Chris Patrone described 6-year-old Landon David’s artwork as junior high level artwork and added that he is far above his age group when it comes to drawing.
David’s artwork has landed him two big accomplishments so far, with Patrone recently displaying his artwork at the Ohio Valley Mall for the ECO Celebration of Arts program and entered him into the ECO Anthology competition earlier in the fall and is waiting to hear back to see if he placed.
What stands out to Patrone about David’s artwork is his attention to detail and skill level at an age like his.
“It’s just an accomplishment to have your work considered when you’re that young,” Patrone said.
During class, David doesn’t rush through his work but rather pays attention to the details, Patrone noted, and said it’s amazing to watch from start to end. David’s mother Erin noted that Landon will sit down to draw and won’t stop until the artwork is finished.
“He’s just a great kid,” she said. “He’s a good artist, and he’s well deserving of anything he gets or wins.”
Erin said Landon, who draws every day, has been drawing since he was able to pick up a pencil at 3 years old.
“He started drawing at 3, and it was clear he was born with the ability,” she said.
Erin believes her son is “so talented” and it’s great to see him already be recognized for it in his first year of school as a kindergartener with the contest and display. She loves watching him draw and is impressed by his eye for detail.
Artwork Landon has created include drawings of Steamboat Willie, Beetlejuice, Deadpool, Bat Man, Slappy the Dummy, R.L. Stine’s Night of the Living Dummy, Pinocchio, E.T. Elvis, The Grinch, Albert Einstein and Scooby Doo.
Landon’s grandmother, Cathleen Kidd, described her grandson as “amazing” for 6 years old and believes everyone should get to see his talent, as she has enjoyed watching him create artwork, and other people could, too.
“There are not enough words to express how proud we are and amazed of our grandson’s talent,” Kidd said.
Landon said he likes to give the pictures he draws to his family and friends.
