Harrison County Fair in Cadiz yields variety of winners

CADIZ — There is much work put into the six days of the 172nd Harrison County Fair.

With the theme of the event being “Now Showing,” there were many different booth ideas for the for the junior fair event.

Although much thought was put into each booth, there were six winners: Windy Ridge, Tri-County Showstoppers, New Rumley 4-H, Freeport Friends, Royal Riders and Cadiz Ranchers.

Entries in the seventh department for jellies saw a peach jam finish first. In the eighth department, buckeyes candy won first and most outstanding, a large loaf of white bread placed first in baked goods, along with first for lemon cheesecake bars and cupcakes decorated to resemble pigs and cows.

Top finishers in the Buckeye State Pedal Pull were Samuel Askey, first; Gaison Kimble, second; and Logan Moore, third in age 4 division.

Age 5 top finishers were Dowlee Patterson, first. Hunter Kuzak, second; and Blake Durig, third.

Age 6 top finishers were Jaxon Knight, first; Luke Turner, second; and Dusta Turner, third.

Age 7 top finishers were Isabelle Knight, first; Reece Furmanski, second; and H. Shumaker, third.

Age 8 top finishers were Leah Durig, first; Ashlynne Corder, second; and Lavon Sturgeon, third.

Age 9 top finishers were McKynze Bryant, first; Ellis Jackson, second; and Nellie Patterson, third.

Age 10 top finishers were Lance Smith, first; Jaylie Cornwell, second; and Bailee Espenscheid, third.

Emma Patterson was the lone contestant in the age 11 category.

The Thursday events will be the horse and PAS qualifying show at 9 a.m., the dairy show at 10 a.m. and the goat show at 5 p.m. Friday will be the companions show at 8:30 a.m., horse versatility at 9 a.m., horse fun show at 10 a.m. and the livestock auction that starts at 1 p.m.

The Extension staff includes Tim Tanner, Extension educator and 4-H youth development; Erika Lyon, agriculture and natural resources; Joseph Maiorano, family and consumer science; Heather Keller, office associate; Callie Eberhart, program assistant; and Joelle Jones, student assistant.

Today’s events:

9 a.m. — Horse show;

10 a.m. — Dairy show;

5 p.m. — Goat show; and

7 p.m. — Grandstand: OSTPA Truck and Tractor Pull.

Friday’s events:

8:45 a.m. — Companion Animal Show. There will be a variety of animals and will feature a People’s Choice Award;

9 a.m. — Horse Fun Show;

1 p.m. — Jr. Fair Livestock Auction; and

7 p.m. — Demo Derby.

Saturday’s events:

9 a.m. — Farm Stock Tractor Pull and the Lil Hustler’s;

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Library Day at the Fair for youngsters with a special treat by Sugaree Cupcake Co. and a goodie bag;

3 p.m. — Peewee Showmanship and Supreme Showmanship 4 p.m.;

6 p.m. — Truck and Tractor Pull; and

8:30-11:30 p.m. — Square dance.
