Free Thanksgiving dinners offered
MARTINS FERRY — The First Presbyterian Church in Martins Ferry will offer a free Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at 400 Walnut St.
People can enjoy a hot fresh dinner consisting of turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, green beans, mashed potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce and applesauce and desserts.
Church elder Barb Vickers and her daughter Beth Vickers are two of the cooks for the dinner. Church members, community members and residents of the surrounding area can all enjoy a free meal, as the church welcomes everybody.
“If you would see when we have our buffet set up and everything, people come in from our church and other places on Thanksgiving Day, giving up their Thanksgiving,” Barb said in an earlier article. “And the faces are all smiles.”
This is the church’s annual Thanksgiving dinner, as it has held a free Thanksgiving meal for about 20 years now. The point of the dinner is for community outreach and not to gain new church members, Barb said. She noted this is a chance for those who have lost their family, don’t have partners or are alone to come eat and socialize.
The church welcomes anybody who would like to have a free meal, including church members, community members and residents of the surrounding area.
